I´m reading NFPA 13 about the support requirements dealing with sismic design and really appreciate if somebody can help to understand in simple words the meaning of "sway bracing".

Am I correct on the following?

Sway bracing directions indicated in the diagrams (little arrows) of apendix A (NFPA13 96, for example figs. A.4. 14.4.3.5.3.a,b,c,d,f) indicate that these supports fixes pipe on that directions, and allow movement in the others not indicated?

Is the objetive of sway bracing to be completely rigid in the directions indicated, I mean to move with the building in these directions?

May somebody please suggest a site where I can observe photos or drawings of actual sway bracing supports?.

Thanks a lot in advance.
