Stacked Ballon help

Stacked Ballon help

Stacked Ballon help

(OP)
Question, and I fell dumb for asking it, but it is really bugging me to no end.  How do you do stacked balloons on configurations?  I've gone thru annotations, picked the stacked balloon icon, I pick one of the items that is shown on my -01 configuration, but how do I pick the one on my -02 config that is suppressed?  Right now the only way I'm getting my other item number to show is by custome and manually adding it, but that's the correct way.  Any help, greatly appriciated.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

You can't add something to what's not there. Create a separate view for the other config, then add the balloons.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

right click on the balloon, add to stack

RE: Stacked Ballon help

oh sorry
ctopher nailed it.
if the item isn't present in the particular config, you can't add to stack.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

You cannot add a balloon to a suppressed part of one config into the view of a different config. Suppressing a part is, for all intents & purpose, like deleting it from from a config.

You will need to create a view specific to the config.

Well, guess I'll continue to do it manually, thanks for your input!

RE: Stacked Ballon help

If the item is suppressed and not showing up in the BOM why do you want too add a balloon to it?

Bradley

RE: Stacked Ballon help

(OP)
Well, it's cause the in the BOM, it's showing how many qty is need for each configuration.  So even if in the model it's not showing up, I selected that both configurations are shown in the BOM.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

Basic drafting practice ... show what's in the BOM.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

Chris is right, un-suppress the part or assembly so it shows up on the face of the drawing. If you have a reason you cannot do that, please let us know.

Bradley

RE: Stacked Ballon help

eRallyMan ... You can place multiple views referenceing diffent configs on a drawing sheet. Also you can place multiple BOMs on a sheet referencing each view if need be.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

Here is a common situation on an assembly drawing. Drawing a full -002 configuration would be a waste of time and... um... paper?

At the bottom of a drawing view:
-001 SHOWN
-002 IS SAME EXCEPT AS NOTED

On the face of drawing there is a stacked bubble pointing to a pattern of 4 screws. One bubble is item 6, the other is item 7. Next to the item 6 bubble is placed -001 ONLY, next to the item 7 bubble is placed -002 ONLY.

Item 6 is a #10 Skt Hd Cap Screw.
Item 7 is a M5 Skt Hd Cap Screw.

The BOM has a QTY REQD column for -001 and a QTY REQD column for -002.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

Does it have to be suppressed, or can it be hidden?  If hidden is acceptable then you can show it, add your balloon to the stack, and hide it again.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

handleman is right. For the part to show up as item 7 on the BOM it cannot be suppressed. Which means you can do as handleman says. Very good idea

Bradley

RE: Stacked Ballon help

... but then it would be counted in the other config where a quantity is not wanted.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

(OP)
Unfortunately it has to be suppressed, it can not be hidden only.

RE: Stacked Ballon help

This is why most of the companies I have worked at in the last 7 years have used separated computerized BOMs. Maybe it is because I have never used them regularly and have too little experience, but I find the BOM function in SWx to be too dificult for the type of drawing we tend to make. My previous post describes a fairly common occurance.
