Non-reusable clutch hubs?

Non-reusable clutch hubs?

Non-reusable clutch hubs?

(OP)
I was skimming over a factory service manual for a Nissan 350Z manual transmission, when I noticed that Nissan recommended replacement of any clutch hub/sleeve pair removed from the tranny. I found this rather curious, and frightening from a cost standpoint.

Is it the splined fit b/t the hub and shaft, or something else that makes a used clutch hub/sleeve set unsuitable?

RE: Non-reusable clutch hubs?

Maybe they're assuming the clutch dogs must be shot if you're in there, and you might as well replace them while you have them out.

It may be entirely conjectural; the factory probably has much less experience with really used transmissions than you do.
