Mating icon in an assembly is Greyed Out????

Mating icon in an assembly is Greyed Out????

Mating icon in an assembly is Greyed Out????

(OP)
I have an assembly that I have been working in and when I went to insert some new mates I found the "paperclip" and insert "Mate" are all greyed out.  Suggestions as to why this is happening are very much appreciated....I have already closed SW and restarted it with no change.

Were you in the process of editing a part in the assy?

No editing in process.  Here is a picture of the toolbar if this helps.

I can replicate that by opening a part which is in the assy, and putting it into "rolled back" state.

You may have to check all the parts to make sure that is not the case.

cheers

RE: Mating icon in an assembly is Greyed Out????

bloodclot,

I've had that happen on occasion.  The workaround I used was to start editing a part within the assembly and then go back to editing the assembly.  That got the mate icon to turn back on.

IMO, this is basically a dopeslap for Solidworks.  I have no idea why it happened, but it didn't happen more than a couple times, at least to me.  It's almost as if Solidworks thought you were editing a part in the context of the assembly and by actually starting to edit the part and then stopping you flipped some switch that made the program start behaving again.

Hope this helps.

Damn, that did the trick.  I was even on the phone with my VAR tech dept. and they were going to write up an SR and call SW with the problem.  They had no clue.

Thanks dgowans!
