Align Angle and Mate Angle

Align Angle and Mate Angle

Align Angle and Mate Angle

(OP)
When you do a component assembly and use "Automatic" for constraint type and pick a plane in the assembly and plane in the component, every now and then "Align Angle" or "Mate Angle" pop up.  It basically orients the two planes with an adjustable angle.

It's darn handy, especially considering what you had to do before Wildfire to get a variably angled assembly in Pro/E.

But how do you do that intentionally?  I'm trying to get an Align Angle constraint in, but "Automatic" just makes them offsets.  And I don't see a why to constain the constaint type to be Align Angle.

Any clues or hints?

cheers!

RE: Align Angle and Mate Angle

I've wondered the exact same thing... I can't figure out what makes Pro/E decide to offer those constraints.

RE: Align Angle and Mate Angle

If you pick 2 Axii, and then 2 Datum Planes, the Angle Offset message prompt will be shown.

If you pick 2 Datum Planes first, you get the Align Offset prompt only. If then you pick 2 Axii, then you can go back and pull down the Align value to show ANGLE.

As long as the planes and axii are oreinted, then you will get the option to use Align (or Mate) Offset, 0.0, Angle or Coeincident.

RE: Align Angle and Mate Angle

FYI - Orient does not exist in the Constraint Type list. It is considered a subset of Align or Mate. The equivalent of an Orient constraint is an Align with Offset set to Oriented. In addition, Fix and Default constraints are not included in the Constraint Type list. Buttons are provided for both of these options in the Component Placement dialog box.
