Fe + 3%Si
Fe + 3%Si
(OP)
Does anyone have any experience with casting of steel with 3% Si (C<0.04%)?
I'm interested in feeding behaviour, can it be flame cut, what thermal treatment is normaly required?
Thanks for helping me out,
Mik

RE: Fe + 3%Si
Interesting application, what is it used for and will there be any machining? I plan to process a small quantity out of curiosity perhaps tomorrow.
I shall then share a few more experiences. As the metal is low in carbon, most of the silicon addition might be consumed as a degasser. You may need to compensate for this loss.
Hope this helps.
RE: Fe + 3%Si
I am not sure about shrinkage. It should flow well.
You will need a deoxidizer so that you can control Si recovery and hit the desired level.
What finishing are you going to do?
