structural adhesive

structural adhesive

Hi everybody!
I am looking for a structural adhesive tape but I prefer a glue (because I do not want thickness) to bond aluminium (with passivation or anodization treatment) and steel. The bond have to resist to sea salt fog, and temperature between -100°C +100°C.

I will appreciate any suggestions!

Thank you

If you apply a zero thickness of adhesive between two non-porus parts you get zero bonding.

Does the steel have any protection such as paint or plating?
If it does your bond is only going to be as good as that material.
As well as the companies Mint Julep mentioned, check with Dexter/Hysol they have some good structural adhesives.

no paint on the steel!
I will have a look on this adhesive.

RE: structural adhesive

Your parts have to be very small or thin to hold together through such a temperature range due to the CTE mismatch of steel and aluminum. You will have less stress on the bondline if the bondline is thicker or the adhesive more flexible. There is no adhesive in the world that will bond  10 foot square plates of 1" thick steel to 1" thick aluminum with a 0.005" bondline. This is an extreme example that illustrates the point that bondline stresses increase with part size.
