How to apply relationship between dimension?

How to apply relationship between dimension?

How to apply relationship between dimension?

(OP)
Hi. I am quite new with solidworks. I am using solidworks 2004 and have created a cube with a cole in the middle.
I have dimensioned the centre of the hole to the right and left edges of the cube to be the same. Is it possible to put a relationship between the two dimension i.e. the distance from the centre of the hole to the left and right edges of the cube to be equal so that when I make changes the cube, the hole stays in the middle i.e. with the same distance from centre of hole to left edge and to right edge.

Thank you.

RE: How to apply relationship between dimension?

Instead of using dimensions to locate your hole, draw a construction line between the left and right edges of the hole and constrain the center of the hole to the midpoint of that line.

RE: How to apply relationship between dimension?

I like to make the origin the center. Similar to handleman, but RMB the line, select midpoint, ctrl-select the origin, select horiz or vert. Do the same to the other side. Make the hole on center of the origin.

You can also use the Link function to synchronise the dimensions. Link can be accessed by RMB click on the dimensions.

Thanks everyone. What's RMB? Is possible to explain how to use link (where is link in the menu?) to do it, CorBlimeyLimey? I think the construction line approach could be messy if I have a row of 8 to 10 holes in the middle of the cube to be positioned at a particular
ratio (not necessary in the middle) that I want.

You're welcome.
Check into Design Tables. It may be what you need.
