Help in finding the centroid center of a planar surface
Help in finding the centroid center of a planar surface
(OP)
Hi all, I need so help. I have called PTC trying to get some help but the techician doesn't understand my needs. Here is the problem. I have a planar sketch that looks like a sharpen pencil. The lines are NOT parallel NOR the corners 90 degrees. I need to find the center of the area and have pro/e position a point there. Some more information, the part contains a solid, the datum sketch mentioned above is a a datum plane 100mm from the solid.
/----------| I tried to sketch what the part looks like.
< * | the astrisk is the point I need pro/e to
\----------| calculate and position as the shape of
pencil changes.
Thanks Texaspete

RE: Help in finding the centroid center of a planar surface
Use the feature analysis. In the Model Analysis window, choose X-Section Mass Property/or Mass Property Analysis, then choosse a plane to create the section, Compute the results and close the window. Then scroll down the tree sub-window (from the Analysis window) until you will see the RESULT DATUMS. There you can choose CSYS_XSEC_COG (Coordinate system of the center of gravity)and PNT_XSEC_COG (point at the center of gravity) and swicht the values to YES. You'll obtain a CSYS or/and a POINT at the center of gravity.

In your post, are you thinking that I have a solid and a plane to intersect? I may have implied that, if so, sorry.
Does this help. texaspete

The sketch you draw is a section in your solid?

RE: Help in finding the centroid center of a planar surface
UPDATE - I was looking at the command called "insert, model, datum, analysis" I have never used this, I probably used it in class - 10 years ago. Could this be the command to have Pro/e measure the surface area, find the center-of-the-centroid and place a datum-point there? Then I can place an next datum sketch there to start my first protrusion. My application is this, Duct work, Given outer boundaries (the shape of a pencil) I have to have a curtain amount of area (the created fill-surface) and the point (this is were I need pro/e to help me place the point at the center of the Centriod.

RE: Help in finding the centroid center of a planar surface
Hora's method is the way to go. Unfortunately, Pro/E does not have a command to find the centroid of a flat surface, so the only way to determine it is to create a solid and use the coordinates from the COG.
