r2001 vs WF2.0

r2001 vs WF2.0

r2001 vs WF2.0

(OP)
Having just made that transition. I have a couple of questions.

1. It seems now if I want to do a cut..oh yeah it's extrude now and I want it a depth to a surface that isn't there...say a pocket floor.. I need to hit the pause feature button and then create a offset datum, then start it back up to make that pick..correct

2. what with the move all over the screen to pick the different boxes..one starts by the dashboard then the next is in the upper right corner... can I config these to be close to each other?

3. where has "intent chain" gone with rounds.. It worked well, now I have one feature..sure I can now modify the values independently but.. well sometimes you want them all to change.... intent!!

4. Surfacing...OMG is that ever cumbersome now...pick a surface copy, then paste.. for just one surface...and ctrl to grab more..sigh ..Seed and boundry which worked great seems like a after thought now

I thought the idea behind WF was to reduce picks...it has created more by far from what i have seen so far. granted it's new to me and I'm sure I'll be able to remember what i need to after awhile.. instead of READING it on a menu

Sombody pinch me and tell me this is just a bad dream!!

RE: r2001 vs WF2.0

Welcome to the Wildfire World, you'll soon get used to it and wonder how you ever coped with Feature- Create- Protrusion- Solid - One Side...........etc !!!!!

1. You don't need to press pause, just hit the datum plane icon, then hit resume. I agree that this seems slightly more long winded than "Make Datum", but it allows you to build multiple datum features before you resume. To pick the extrude to surface just drag on the depth box and hold Shift.

2. Use right hand mouse button to shortcut dashboard options, and use middle mouse button to accept most options and finish the feature. You can reposition the dashboard and sketcher toolbar to the top of screen, if you prefer using Tools - Customize Screen

3. Intent chain is still there - select an edge to round, move your mouse away from that edge, then back to the same edge, and you shoul see all intent edges highlight and pick again, or hold down right mouse button and choose "Pick from list" to select intent edge

4. Seed and boundary is still there, it might be worth watching:

This helps explain Wildfire selection methods.
There's some other good stuff on:

By the way, another good area on ptc.com is:

Wildfire is a lot different, but I'd hate to go back to 2001 and I'm sure you'll feel the same way soon.
Good Luck!!!!

John,

Thanks for calming the savage beast winky smile...me

I'm getting there. Been making some mapkeys, it's been my way of getting around the ka-zillion picks.

Off to find any new config options

again thanks and have a great weekend

RE: r2001 vs WF2.0

I prefer R2001 but may convert to WF3 later this year.  I'm just not keen on the UI of WF.  The config options are pretty much the same.  I have a couple of files with configs from 2001 and WF.....but search this site because their lots of links to config options
