#16AWG OUTDOOR RATED?

#16AWG OUTDOOR RATED?

I am having trouble finding #16AWG single conductor for a control system that is outdoor rated. No one makes XHHW in #16. Does anyone know of another type of insulation that would be rated for outdoor industrial applications?

RE: #16AWG OUTDOOR RATED?

Why does it have to be #16? Rather than spend a lot of time looking for something strange like that, just use #14.

jraef,

The manufacturer's specifications call for #16.

RE: #16AWG OUTDOOR RATED?

Hmm...

AND outdoor?

Isn't it more likely that he specifies *at least* AWG #16?

RE: #16AWG OUTDOOR RATED?

Right. Usually wire specifications refer to minimum sizes, larger wire is actually better in almost all cases, just a bit more expensive. The only caveat is if a termination device cannot accept the larger wire, but that is rare in this size range.

It is a termination specification that requires no larger than #16.

No worries though, I found what I was looking for. Carol Brand who was bought out by General Cable makes #16 XHHW.
