question about drawing

question about drawing

question about drawing

(OP)

Hi folks, I am new to the mechanical design drawing.  I want to ask you guys what are the circled parts in the picture called. And does anyone know the drawing standard to that? Any advice are appreciated.

RE: question about drawing

The 45 degree angled cut is called a chamfer.

RE: question about drawing

As for drawing standard, I think it is ISO, but with so few dimensions it is hard to tell.

RE: question about drawing

Do you mean "exploded views", showing additional detail on the print?

RE: question about drawing

Chamfers and what I would call (thread) reliefs.

RE: question about drawing

The feature where the diameter changes is called an undercut or relief.  These are used because it is not possible always to be sure a corner is square, so extra material is removed to me sure other parts like bearings fit correctly.

RE: question about drawing

JoannDu, you might do well to get a classic engineering graphics textbook. Used bookstores are full of 'em.

Mike

RE: question about drawing

Thanks guys for all your instructions.  Really helped me a lot.

RE: question about drawing

I am with the tick.
The illustrations show
a groove that allows for the the
spline or thread to be fully cut
across that section of the part.
The chamfer is probably an
option to create less of a stress
raiser or to clear a radius on
the tool that cuts the groove.
