SIMetrix question

SIMetrix question

SIMetrix question

(OP)
I'm trying to figure out how to edit (or even see) some of the properties for some of the components.  With some componets (like resistors) I can right-click on the item and I get a dialog box which allows me to change resistance values.  With other components (like diodes) the dialog box contains to information on the component.

I have the freeware version (SIMetrix/Simplis Intro) and I can't find the info in the manual.  Any users out there know how to see or change component info?

RE: SIMetrix question

Try F7. This works on version 2.5

RE: SIMetrix question

I should say you have to have selected that component before pressing F7.

So the sequence is left mouse click on it to make it change colour (selected) then F7.

That does the same thing as the right-click.  For resistors and inductors it does give me a property box.  For diodes it doesn't, it just pulls up a dialog box asking which diode I want to use (and not the properties of the diode).

RE: SIMetrix question

Oh I see. In that case you want to edit the model file. You would typically use notepad to edit the model file. You used to be able to edit the library cache. Not sure if you can still do that. Typically most model parameters are defaulted to simplify modelling a device. You therefore have to look up in the documentation which parameters are available.

The Ebers-Moll model for a transistor has about 40 parameters for example.

Thanks logbook.  I found the diode in one of the libraries and was able to play around with the parameters.

RE: SIMetrix question

Why mess around with the diode parameters? If you don't have the component you want, why not download the Spice model for the right diode from its manufacturer's website? You can easily add further models to the Simetrix demo library package just the same as the full licence version: the only limitation in the free version is the number of nodes it will support per simulation.

(We run a full licence version of Simetrix 3.1 for extensive simulation, plus several "free" copies for schematic input or simple simulations.)
