Greetings

My queston is two fold.  I am considering taking further studies to get my BSME.  Regardless of age or where you are at finacially I believe that any education is needed to stay compeptitive with the newbies coming out of school.  Yes, I do believe that experience has an upper hand to a point in competeing with these people, however after they have 5 yrs they seam do equal or surpass what I am making because of their education.

I am contimplating taking an online program from Kennedy Western University on line.  http://www.kw.edu/

They seam to have a viable program and the cost/time available ratio I find favorable.  I am curious as to how serious this type of degree wil be taken from the standpoint of being accepted as having an actual BSME by employers?  I checked their accredidation and it seams to be worthy.  I am just looking for your folks opinion.

RE: College continuation; creditation.

These type of post some up often.  I've yet to learn of an accredited online B.S. program for any engineering curriculm.  If the B.S. is not accredited, it's problaby not worth much except what knowledge you gain.

RE: College continuation; creditation.

I found this on the website:

Quote:

Kennedy-Western University is licensed by the State of Wyoming under Wyo. Stat §§21-2-401 through 21-2-407 and neither the Department of Education nor the Wyoming State Board of Education has accredited or endorsed any course of study being offered by Kennedy-Western University. Such oversight requires Kennedy-Western to meet the standards as indicated within Article 4: Private School Licensing. All applicable Wyoming State statutes on licensing can be accessed at: http://legisweb.state.wy.us/statutes/titles/title21/c02a04.htm. The following excerpt offers an example of the standards Kennedy-Western must adhere to:

21-2-402. Institutional Requirements and Standards

· Demonstration of financial stability through review of current financial statement prepared or audited by a certified public accountant.
· Illustration of instructional methods used by the institution including methods of assigning, monitoring and evaluating work, awarding credit and granting a degree.
· Supply professional credentials for each instructor of the institution including official academic transcripts verifying academic status, educational degrees attained and the degrees attained are from institutions accredited by a recognized and accepted accrediting agency as defined by the department rule and regulation.

In addition, verification must be provided that not less than fifty percent of the instructors employed by the institution have received a masters or doctorate degree in their respective field of study from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

RE: College continuation; creditation.

I agree with Senseless.  If the program is not ABET accredited, don't bother.  That will be a waste of time and money if you plan to work in the USA.

RE: College continuation; creditation.

I too agree. If you want a BSME, go with an ABET accredited program, in the US or wherever you are.

An un-accredited program degree will be looked upon with lesser light than an accredited one, for obvious reasons.
