Metal Railing on Concrete Barrier

Metal Railing on Concrete Barrier

Metal Railing on Concrete Barrier

(OP)
Will the placement of an ornamental metal railing on top of a crash tested barrier affect its crash rating?  One railing is on adjacent to a sidewalk and the other is off the driving lane with a 4' shoulder.

RE: Metal Railing on Concrete Barrier

Trucks and busses tend to roll so that the upper part of the vehicle is over the barrier. Make sure your ornamental railing is light enough that these vehicles won't snag on it.

You could contact the NY State Bridge Authority and ask for the details they used on the Kingston-Rhinecliff bridge a few years back.

RE: Metal Railing on Concrete Barrier

Are u interested in the railing because of pedestrian or bike traffic? what's the purpose?
