Creating Admin mode in catia

Creating Admin mode in catia

How do I go about opening catia in admin mode? Do i have to create the env?

RE: Creating Admin mode in catia

run a session in administrator mode using the following command "cnext -env CATIA.V5R14.B14 -admin"

Please read on-line docs.

RE: Creating Admin mode in catia

5050t - I'm rehashing this topic after some time, in response to your suggestion to "Please read on-line docs."

I recently had the pleasure of forgetting how to login to Catia under admin, and I *did* read the online docs.  When searching for "admin mode" in the documentation, I got about 100 results that all contained the phrase "admin mode", but only to tell the user to login in "admin mode". (never actually a reference to the procedure, itself)  I'm fairly skilled at using the docs.

I'm curious to know how one finds the "admin mode" login procuedure in the online documentation?  To your credit, you posted the command line login.

Tip: posting basic info can be frustrating.  Try posting the search criteria, or the html file reference in the documentation as a pointer.  This helps others to become more proficient in using the documentation.

Here is a quote from on-line docs.

" 1. Log on as an administrator.
You must belong to the Administrators group, or have the privileges assigned to the Administrators group.

For the purposes of this particular scenario only, you need to log on as administrator because you are going to modify the default global environment (V5R14).

 2. Select the Start->Programs->CATIA->Tools->Environment Editor V5R14 command to display the Environment Editor.
You will see an environment with the following name:

CATIA

 3. Click the CATIA.V5R14.B14 environment to display the corresponding environment variables.
 4. Locate the following environment variable: CATReferenceSettingPath
Note that the default setting for this variable is empty.

 5. Reset the variable so that it points to an existing folder, for example:
CATReferenceSettingPath    E:\users\administrator\LockSettings

then click Set, then OK to save and exit the environment editor. This folder will contain the setting locks you will create later. The folder access rights must be set up for read access only for end users, and read/write for the person creating the setting locks.

 6. Run a session in administrator mode using the following command:
cnext -env CATIA.V5R14.B14 -admin

or:

cnext -admin

The session is started using the default global environment, and a message informs you that you are running in administration mode. Click OK in the message box to proceed. If prompted by the License Manager, reserve at least one configuration license then restart a session..."

RE: Creating Admin mode in catia

The online docs have not been updated in a while - you no longer need to be an admin (but don't tell my PC group that!), you just need to have write access to the directories that your environment file point to (CATReferenceSettingsPath and CATCollectionStandard).

RE: Creating Admin mode in catia

the online doc has been wrong about that since day 1 but you do not want that to be known by everyone...
