6Mo or Monel?

6Mo or Monel?

6Mo or Monel?

(OP)
Hi

I need to install a replacement 85m 4" riser to handle a mixture of sea water, hydrocarbons and sand. The choice is between 6Mo and Monel 400. The pump discharge spool is 6Mo and the piping it eventually connect to is Monel 400.

I know 6Mo has better corrosion resistance to salt water but does it have a better erosion resistance?

Do I need a insulating gasket between the two materials?

Thanks in advance

RE: 6Mo or Monel?

The 6%Mo stainless grades will have a lot better erosion resistance than 400.  They are stronger to start with and the surfaces will work harden more with abrasion.
I wouldn't think that there is much difference in corrosin resistance or galvanic potential.  I don't see a need for isolation since neither material will be activly corroding.
