tensile strenght of copper upon temperature
(OP)
Do you know wher I can find the mechanical charasteristics of copper upon temperature. I am looking for the tensile strenght of copper at 20°C, 400°C and 800°C.

RE: tensile strenght of copper upon temperature
Tensile strengths of high conductivity copper (C10100 or C10200 rod) to 800oC are given in Metals Handbook, Volume 2. Properties and Selection: Nonferrous Alloys and Pure Metals, 9th Edn., p. 277 (1979).
Tensile strength data (measured from plot):
20oC 430 MPa (62.4 ksi)
400oC 151 MPa (21.9 ksi)
800oC 13 MPa ( 1.9 ksi)
*Tensile strengths at elevated temperature vary with loading rate; one study from 1931 gives both lower (14.9 ksi at 400oC) and higher (2.7 ksi at 800oC) values in comparison to those above.
Creep severely limits the application of copper in stressed conditions at elevated temperature. The ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII (1959), limits design stress to 2.5 ksi at 400oF (204oC).
