Schedule Filter - Milestones

Schedule Filter - Milestones

Schedule Filter - Milestones

(OP)
Does anyone know how to filter out/or use any other method to obtain the sequence of activities (logic) preceding a Milestone activity in a P3 schedule.

I have tried to use Longest Path as the selection criteria in the filter, but that gave me only one result for a schedule that has several Milestone activities

Please advise.

RE: Schedule Filter - Milestones

It has been awhile since I've used P3, but I think you can filter based on float.  If you want to see only the Critical Path, filter on FLOAT <1 (Zero float = Critical Path).

When I was reveiwing a schedule, I would want to see all the activities close to the critical path, say within 5 to 10 days, so I would filter with FLOAT < that number.

You could also call the P3 Help line??

Hope this helps!

RE: Schedule Filter - Milestones

You need to use the data categories function.  In P3 you have user definable data categories for each activity.  You can sort and categorize for ease of viewing.  This can also be done with the WBS (work breakdown structure) but is a little more difficult.

In this case you want to tag each activity with a milestone code.  E.G. go to Data - Activity Codes.  Under the activitiy codes tab you have two tables: codes and values.  In this example you would have a Code named Milestone (use an abbreviation because P3 limits the number of characters you can use).  Say MS for milestone.  Then below, in Values, give the code several values, 1, 2, 3 for MS 1, MS 2, MS 3.  Click ok.

Now, go to your shedule view, press F7 to get the activity detail window and in the bottom left corner you should see a box called MS.  If you click in it, you will see your values.  Assign a value to each activity.  You can then filter on the activity code and get all activities relating to a particular milestone.

Hope that helps.
