Need Excel formula to convert strings to part numbers (or vice versa)

Need Excel formula to convert strings to part numbers (or vice versa)

I am setting up a spreadsheet for a Design table in Catia V5.  Can anyone show me how to decompose a string into numeric values, OR compose a string from numeric values?

For example, if I have a part number, called D-7-6-5-.25, where D is irrelevant, 7 is length, 6 is width, 5 is height, and .25 is material thickness, how can I derive the part number from these values, or get the attributes in unique columns by decomposing the string?

Thank you in advance.

I don't think it really matters.  To me, it's the same desired effect, since I already know what the part numbers mean.

Solid7 - check your email, I sent an excel file that constructs part numbers for a Selflube wear strip.
