SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

(OP)
Well I went against common sense and instinct and downloaded the SldWx2006 SPO4.1 update [early]. After building a simple part from structural steel, if I try to reopen the part and edit feature, it crashes solid works, and my Solidworks Rx won't open due to errors. Process details below.

Part - Draw [constrained] line>> Structural Member>> Save part.
Open part>> Edit feature [structural member]>> SldWx crashes.
SldWx Rx - 5 Registry Editor Errors. 1 Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error.

I've tried using the SldWx cd's to 'repair' but to no avail. I've been redoing the parts from scratch (delete the ones to be modified) to cut downtime but as u can guess, that can get time consuming...

<I am also awaiting a response from our reseller/ tech support. Will post results>

Also note that this 'edit feature crash' does not happen for the more basic features like extrudes/ cuts (thus far)

RE: SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

Instead of doing a repair use the modify and turn off all your  Anti-Virus and spyware apps, also unplug your netowrk connection to ensure nothing disturbs the install.

Also list your Video card and the driver set you are using. If you don't know how to achieve this look in the FAQ section it will tell you how to get that information. Then list it in here.

RE: SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

Is this structural steel created with toolbox, weldments, or did you sketch it yourself?

Dang that was quick...

I'm using a ATi Mobility Radeon X600 (128MB) ati2dvag.dll as the main driver (version 6.14.0010.6530).

Other hardware info possibly relevant:
Compaq X6000 Laptop
3.0Ghz
2GB RAM

Will try the modify w/ the cd's. Thanks

RE: SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

(OP)
The structural steel was taken from the toolbox and turned into a library feature part for easier access (i.e. placed in the menu list of Struct steel parts).

RE: SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

(OP)
Well the SldWx Rx is fixed from the "modify" using the cd's  but shows no major errors. The only error shown is that the toolbox is loaded on a local drive which it's been that way for over a year (and has shown that error for the same time). Nothing new there.

SldWx still crashes under the prespecified conditions.

NOTE: SldWx Rx shows the graphics driver as 6.14.10.4955, which is different than the "main driver" shown in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (FAQ's).

RE: SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

That card is not supported nor the video card driver. That could be a large part of your crashing... it might have worked before... but remember SW is sensitive to video card and the drivers being used... so I would try the file on another machine and see if you get the same problem.

since you are reading 2 different drivers, you might have a conflict of drivers... you need to contact ATI and ask them how to overcome and uninstall all the drivers and install just one good one... but you really just need to replace your video card.

RE: SPO4.1 problem - Structural steel edit feature crash

(OP)
Well after reviewing the problem w/ my reseller/ tech support, it appears that it is something to do w/ a certain set of files. New and most other old files do not duplicate the problem.
Also noticed was that the corrupted files yield an error upon rebuilding - "A weld profile and path segment are required to make a weld structural member". Both req'd features are still in the part.

Troubleshooting indicates a problem probably associated with the install of the service pack and not the service pack itself. This has not been 100% verified but seems analogous to such problems.
(Note: My problem only started after the 4.1 update)

Temporary Solution
Due to the simplicity of my parts, I'll surrender and just make new parts. If u have this problem and have intricate path sketches then deleting the structural steel feature and redoing it also works. If u have lotsa parts and intricate paths, u're pretty much screwed for time.

Thanks to all those who helped.

A desktop with supported hardware is in the works but I'll see if I can hold on till this one starts giving obvious hardware related issues ;)
