THRU or THRU ALL

THRU or THRU ALL

THRU or THRU ALL

(OP)
Has anyone figured out how to control when SW use THRU or THRU ALL when using the Hole Wizard.  For me personally, I never use THRU ALL unless I am going thru multiple walls.  Apparently since SW 2001 I’ve yet to get this down.

Thanks in Advance

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

Have you fiddled with the hole callout format file yet?    It's a text file that defines the text of your hole callouts based on which hole standard/size/options you choose.  Check FAQ559-891 for more info.

I am aware of the text file that controls the callouts but would really rather not mess with it.  I’ve been down that road before and it is like sticking pins in your eyes.

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

That text file is what controls what you are talking about. If you what THRU ALL, then you will have to change and update that file.

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

What I am really getting at is how SW Hole Wizard reacts based on your End Condition selection.  For instance up to next or up to surface may sometimes display as THRU or THRU ALL.  This is what I’ve found perplexing.  The way I see it, unless I’ve specified THRU ALL don’t give it to me.  I guess Sam Adams and me will have to attack that Text file and figure it out.

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

So you're talking about actual end conditions in the hole wizard rather than the display of hole notes?  I don't recall ever seeing anything in the wizard other than Blind, Through All, Up To Next, Up To Surface/Vertex, or Offset From Surface.

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

Let me try and clarify – I was trying to see if there is some kind of sense as to how your selection of End Condition in the Hole Wizard relates to the way the Hole Callout Note will display in the Drawing.  Assume the hole goes all the way thru the part – selecting Up to Next in the Hole Wizard may display a Callout Note of  .xxx Thru, Up to Surface may display .xxx to some depth (even though it goes thru the part), and Thru All will display Thru All.  It’s been my experience in the past that the Hole Callout Note on the Drawing is not always consistent to the End Condition selection of the Hole Wizard.  Like I originally stated I don’t like the use of Thru All on a simple hole that goes thru one wall and how I select my end condition in the Hole Wizard has some type of affect as to how this will display.  I guess Up to Next is the best bet.

It’s Friday and this Dog been beat to death.  RIP.

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

I understand what you mean, but I haven't see anything on why it picks thru or thru all.  Sometimes it says thru all and it's not.  I've not been all that concerned with it cuz I can just modify the note and it doesn't happen incorrectly too often.  However, you can contact your VAR and ask this question directly.  If they don't have a good answer, the make an enhancement request to all the user to choose which they want, and also give an api control over it.  :)

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

From my experience, the Through All option is the only option that produces the Thru All note.  Up To Next produces Thru and the rest produce a depth.

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

The suggestion was made to alter the hole callout format file. I have a question about that. If I alter the file to read THRU EVERYTHING, BY GOLLY! instead of THRU ALL, will the callout still display the new text if it goes to another SWx license? Say, to my coworker, or a vendor? Or do I have to send the altered hole callout format file too?

RE: THRU or THRU ALL

It will stay that way until someone edits the feature in the model (or rehangs the hole callout).
