SSR for motor control

SSR for motor control

SSR for motor control

Hi. I would like to know what the outcome would be if I supply this SSR ( www.power-io.com/products/hdd.htm ) with voltages within it's range but more than twice (40 kHz) the cycles it's tested at.

RE: SSR for motor control

Hello Mechd07

Why not contact the manufacturer and ask them what would happen if you were to supply an overfrequency to their SSR.

LOL. It's funny you said that. I thought the same thing right after I posted. Sorry, it's been a long day. But now that I already have posted and the phones there more than likely will not be answered at his hour replies are stil welcome.

RE: SSR for motor control

You would be exceeding the turn-on and turn-off times.
You may induce a state where the device is modulating instead of switching. The losses incured by the modulating service will probably induce rapid failure from overheating.

RE: SSR for motor control

Instead of going to a pre-packaged SSR, why not go directly to the IGBT mfrs and ask for a power module suitable for a 40kHz switching frequency? I assume you are trying to build a PWM controller no?

RE: SSR for motor control

I guess "exceeding" is the wrong word in my previous post. I meant that you would be turning it off before it was fully on, and vice versa.
