FPS - Branch Lines -- Bottom Tap vs top Tap
FPS - Branch Lines -- Bottom Tap vs top Tap
(OP)
The FPS is a dry type. The situation: the pipe is filled with water and drained during testing. Is it better to tap the branch lines out the top or bottom of the main lines?
My initial thought is to tap the branch out the top and the air can act as a cushion to keep the water out of the branch. On second thought, if the piping is under pressure I would think the water will make its way into the branch line regardless of bottom or top tap.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Vapor will still go out the top tapped line but no condensed moisture will exit there.

But it is also Fluid Power Society.
You can find their site at www.ifps.org
They had to add the "I" because Fire Protection.org beat them to fps.org. "I" is for International.

I just looked at the original post and find my answers are not answering what the poster was asking. I read Pneumatic into the question.

My background is HVAC, but had to comment on a fire sprinkler system. taps are out the top.
thanks

side or top tap will allow drainage of the pipe as long as the proper slope is applied to the piping.
the branch lines will have either upright heads, dry pendent heads, or pendent heads on return bends in a heated location.
if the taps come off of the bottom of the main sediments will collect in the pipes and could plug heads or piping.
