AB panel builder 1400e DOS wont run in 16-bit windows?

AB panel builder 1400e DOS wont run in 16-bit windows?

AB panel builder 1400e DOS wont run in 16-bit windows?

(OP)
i am working on panel view software, and when i try to open panel builder 1400e (AB) i get these errors:

'no iceutil.dll found'  i copied iceutil.dll from RS software/RSview enterprise folder.  that got rid of this error, but the next one comes up either way.

'one of the library files needed to run pb1400e cannot load in the 16-bit windows subsystem becuase it is a win32dll.

im running on windows XP.

i have already installed the 841559 hotfix.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

RE: AB panel builder 1400e DOS wont run in 16-bit windows?

Create a DOS partition and run Windows 3.11. Seriously! From memory I think that software release is for Win 3.1 / '95 / NT, maybe '98 too. I don't think you'll get it working under XP - it's just too different to the earlier versions of windows.

Why Win 3.11? Well, the com port handling is reliable in Win 3.11 and you can actually decide what it does <gasp!>, rather than Bill's minions deciding for you. I abandoned any hope of running some of our DOS applications in the pseudo-DOS windows from within the later operating systems. Anything which directly interacts with a com port is usually either unreliable or simply doesn't work. My laptop runs multiboot options for DOS 6.2 with Win 3.11, NT4, and XP because it is easier than messing about, especially with A-B's flakey serial port drivers.

I've just had a fun-filled few days trying to get my A-B 1747-PIC working again with my laptop after IT 'upgraded' it, so I have a lot of sympathy!

we were able to get 1400e running on another pc using xp.  that pc is going in the field monday and there is a list of errors when i go to remove the windows hotfix that prevents .pvc files from opening, so it was decided that it was to risky to remove the hotfix (kb828741).  i cant figure out what is different between the 2 pc's that allows 1400e to run on one and not the other.

hope i was clear.  i'll look into some of your suggestions.  thank you.

correction, it is windows based, not dos based.

RE: AB panel builder 1400e DOS wont run in 16-bit windows?

Have you configured the program to run under the compatibility mode for a previous version of Windows?

i got it.  i had to uninstall rsview and 1400e, and reinstall with 1400e first, then rsview, and it worked.  rockwell also got back with me and said that i needed service pack 2 for xp.

thanks for the responses
