(OP)
Hi everybody,

My question is: given the pressures the heart operates at, why do we not feel it contracting? It seems very interesting and I can't find an answer yet.

Thanks.

RE: about heart

It does not appear like you have an answer as of yet, so I will take a non-qualified stab at providing my interpretation of your question.

You only feel if the nerve ending is stimulated.

I am guessing that there is no nerve ending in the vacinity of the heart movement, during normal load, that can pick up this movement, hence, you normally do not feel the heart beating.

On the other hand, if you run the Boston marathon in olympic time, and sprint the final 800 m in 96 seconds, there will be a good chance you will feel your heart beat since it now has to work much harder, hence, the effects can be felt further from the heart, and more nerve endings will have a chance of picking up the movements.

RE: about heart

I think it's a matter of normality. When you start feeling an organ, no matter which, something is wrong. The human body "knows" the normal values of the internal parameters. It sounds the alarm only when the actual values are going out of the normal range. In  other words: we "know" everything. We just do not take any action until the equilibrium status is shaken. And this is normal, as far as there are not fixed values of the human parameters, but only limits of them. When variations are within the limts, why bother?

RE: about heart

I have worked with one or two heart device companies and have heard a thing or two about hearts. My information agrees with Ashereng more or less. It there are no nerve endings which are stimulated. Therefore no sensation of the heart movement.
