Want to be sure I'm not over simplifying things for a B31.3 job, on a 4" XXH joint with GTAW (root) and SMAW (balance).  If I use ER80S-D2 GTAW and E8018-C2 SMAW, is that "overkill"? Any input would help.

RE: Filler metal for GTAW of SA-333 gr. 3

What is the piping material?

Sorry; should've put it in the body of my message instead of the header.  I'm welding SA333 gr. 3 UNS K31918.

Oop's another senior moment.
Sorry

RE: Filler metal for GTAW of SA-333 gr. 3

You do not want to use ER80S-D2. The D2 filler metal composition will not provide low temperature toughness. You should use ER80S-Ni3 for GTAW. For SMAW, I would use E8018-C2. The joint should be PWHT at 1150 deg F to achieve a weld metal low temperature impact toughness of 20 ft-lbs at -100 deg F.
