Rhino .stp file in Inventor

Rhino .stp file in Inventor

(OP)
I have gotten a .stp file from an Industrial Design company and I am trying to open it in inventor. The file was created in Rhino. I open the file and have nothing but surfaces that I need to "promote" in order to even use them, I really need solids. Is this a setting in Rhino that I need to get our ID guys to figure out or is there a way to make a colection of surfaces in inventor into a solid part?

RE: Rhino .stp file in Inventor

Try using some of the "options" check boxes under the file>import screen in Inventor, to change the way it behaves when it encounters problems.  Do you know if the stp file is an assembly or a discrete part?  Inventor will usually choke on the .stp import of assemblies or any parts that are "multi-body".  We've had good luck transferring .stp files to/from solidworks.

It is an individual part, and I've had good luck with .stp and inventor in the past it's just these parts from this vendor and Rhino.
