Drawing Gremlin...???

Drawing Gremlin...???

Drawing Gremlin...???

(OP)
My boss just recently installed swx05 on his new machine
here. When he pulls up a drawing all the diameter dims
show <MOD-DIAM> instead of the dia symbol for dia dims.
It even happens when he places a new dia dim...any ideas???

RE: Drawing Gremlin...???

<MOD-DIAM> is the text to show the Ø symbol in the SW drawing.  It should not appear in the drawing view, but would appear in the property manager.

For example, if the diameter dimension was .375, in property manager it would look like <MOD-DIAM><DIM>, in the drawing view it should be Ø.375.

Yup...understood GT...but they show in the views this way
as do newly placed dims...goofiest thing I've ever seen.
Maybe a quickie reinstall is in order for now...

RE: Drawing Gremlin...???

dutch,
Re-install is what I would try to do.  Hope that works.

RE: Drawing Gremlin...???

This is just a display bug. Normally restarting SolidWorks (or the computer, can't remember) everything gets back to normal.

RE: Drawing Gremlin...???

What video card & driver is in his computer.

If restarting does not help, try Alternative to try before reinstalling  FAQ559-507

Dutch,

If you reinstall, turn off virus protection prior to install. It can cause unexpected problems with SW.

Thx for the suggestions...will try them,ummm....monday!!!

RE: Drawing Gremlin...???

Dutch,
Just to let you know, all definitions for non-alpha/numeric symbols are defined in a file called "Gtol.sym", located in:
Drive:\SW-LoadPoint\lang\english

  Try reloading this file.

Caution should be exercised with this file especially in a multi-user environment. If an individual has changed the definition of anything in the file, then the definition is only decipherable on that individuals computer using their specific "Gtol.sym" file.

Making matters worse, SolidWorks has continued to ignore the fact that a "File Location" option should be provided for this file.

If the file is edited, then it must be manually loaded on all computers for all SolidWorks Users.

Sorry, one more thing, If your company uses the SolidWorks Viewer or eDrawings Viewer, well, the definition comes from the same file and would therefore need to be copied to all view clients.
HTH,
    Eddie
