Flange Sizing?

Flange Sizing?

Flange Sizing?

(OP)
I can't find the Pressure/Temp ratings for std (ie 600lb) flanges so I need a bit of help.

What flange rating would you recommend for the following?
Pump discharge, cast iron construction
6" diameter
test pressure is 1075psi
operating temperature only 100 degF

Thanks folks!

THANKS!
Thought I was close but need somebody smarter to confirm it!

RE: Flange Sizing?

sprintcar:

ANSI 600 class will do the job, but the A105 material should be with a FLAT FACE to conform with the obvious flat face on the cast iron construction.  Do not attempt to apply a Raised Face A105 ANSI 600 flange on the CI pump.  You don't want to to buy another pump casing.

RE: Flange Sizing?

Adding a little to Montemayor's post I can see problems with getting enough gasket seating stress using a full face gasket and the CI flange on a 6" flange.

What is your gasket material?

RE: Flange Sizing?

Not smarter. I have a book.

I need a book like that... or at least a couple of the pages!
Customer asked to do this with a 250lb raised face flange design on the pump discharge.

RE: Flange Sizing?

sprintcar,

I keep a "bound" notebook with me at all times when I work. I jot stuff like this down when I look up the info. Later, I transfer it neatly into electronic format and store it on my USB hard drive.

Sounds like a great reference.... maybe you need to publish it for the rest of us!

I'm still looking for the reference or formulas to calculate this.  They want a 250lb flange on the pump so I need to show them the tables.

Thanks!

RE: Flange Sizing?

Hello Sprintcar,

Have you tried ASME B16.1? Cast Iron Pipe, Flanges and Flanged Fittings.
The pressure classes you are looking for is there like 125, 250.
I hope it helps.
Frank

RE: Flange Sizing?

Sorry Sprintcar, I don't have 250# data (don't use it). Hope some of sources others have cited will work.

Thanks folks!!
Montemayor gave me the link I needed and I printed out the table for the engineer. I also explained flat face vs raised.
Problem solved & disaster averted thanks to Eng-Tips experts!
