High Pitch on Air Compressor
High Pitch on Air Compressor
(OP)
We have a 10 HP Ingersoll Rand 2 stage air compressor at work which is only 1 month old. We ran the air lines and built a enclosure around the compressor to quiet the compressor noise down. The problem is that at sometimes a high pitch like a tea kettle sound comes from around the regulator. We replaced the regulator and it does the same thing. Some thoughts like maybe the checkvalve may be having problems. We have 1 inch piping coming out of the compressor and it goes down to 3/4 inch to the regulator and out and is 3/4 inch piping down to 1/2 inch line. I don't know if I am in the right forum but I would appreciate any suggestions possble from anyone. Thanks from Cedar Rapids, Ia.

RE: High Pitch on Air Compressor
Regulator rated for the CFM?
Why are you reducing the air line down to 3/4". You are supposed to keep the air velocity below a certain speed; 30m/s.(I think) You may be exceeding that by a lot. Could make some noise.
Others may have some ideas too.
Got a link to your specific compressor on the IR site?

Sometimes I have seen (when the IR folks screw up) them put a compression fitting instead, which often won't seal.
