font width factor

Does anyone have any clue how how you can change how wide a font appears for a text box in SW? It does not seem to give you any control over that, however im sure it's able to, as I can import text boxes from AutoCAD with varying widths, and they display more or less correctly, with the same width in SW.

Thanks,
nick

RE: font width factor

SW uses Windows fonts.  Your best bet is to stick with TrueType fonts, and use one that fits your text box.

Well I would, but I'm having to convert title blocks from AutoCAD, which our documentation department set up with narrow date boxes, so any font small enough to fit horizontally is a bit hard to read.

Thanks,
nick

RE: font width factor

If you are converting from AutoCAD then I'm pretty sure you are not looking at narrow fonts, but a "fixed width" (I think?) text. AutoCAD allows you to specify a hard width of yout text box so that whether two characters or twenty, it will always be the same width. The characters will expand or compress to fill the space.

SolidWorks doesn't do this. You're stck with a difficult situation of making your font small enough to fit the space and still be legible.

RE: font width factor

Perhaps create a new field for the date which is more ttf friendly?

Well I more or less got it, just imported various text boxes from AutoCAD, and used them more or less as a template, I was just wondering, because it’s pretty obvious that SW can have text of varying width, I guess they just don’t want people to use it or something.

Thanks,
Nick
