licensing through VPN tunnel

licensing through VPN tunnel

licensing through VPN tunnel

(OP)
Hi all,

Does anyone know whether it is possible to get a network license granted through a VPN tunnel?

Thanks.

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

Astronomer - I have done this with other softwares using a flexlm licensing method.  It should be possible with Catia, a VPN tunnel is similar to your internal network.  Computer A needs constant access to License Server, as Catia constantly checks for a license.

Regards,
Derek

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

I do it all of the time.  It works great, although my networked standards files and such are a little slow thru the VPN (our firewall is overtaxed).

Thanks.
I could start CATAI remotely today morning.
However, when I want to open a CATPart or Product file, which is on the local disk, I get "Wrong application level", "Invalid data structure" errors.
These files have been created with the same version of CATIA.
Apparently, I can create parts but I can't open existing files.
Any idea how to fix this or what's wrong is appreciated.

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

astronomer - usually those errors are Catia revision errors.  What version/s are you running including SP level?

Derek

Thanks, Derek.
We're running V5R15. I don't know the SP level. How can I find it out?

There're other things which aren't right. I started CATIA at home and apart from the issue mantioned above, it seems normal. However, when I look at CATIA, running concurrently in my office, via remote desktop, the screen is empty. The window title shows that a drawing is loaded but the screen is empty.

I just realized, that CATIA is running in DEMO mode on my home machine. This is probably the reason why I can't open files.

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

Laszlo - that would have been my last guess (in demo mode), but yes, in demo mode you can not open parts/products.

Derek

Now, of course, the question is why is it in DEMO mode?
Is it possible that my DSL line is fleaky and since CATIA checks the license periodically, at some point it didn't get permission from the server?

I found it.
DEMO mode has to be unchecked in Option/Licensing.

Great, it works!!!

Thanks again for your help.

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

I suspect that your CATSettings directory is somewhere on the network, but is unavailable thru the VPN.  That is why you are getting different settings at home than you are at work.

You might try to set this directory AVAILABLE OFF LINE.

Note:  Do not EVER make CATIA documents available off line - you will permanently corrupt them.

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

Astronomer - In catia - top text menus - Help - About CATIA V5, on the 3 line it will tell you the SP Level.

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

(OP)
Mine doesn't tell me the SP Level. I looked, but it only shows the version and build date.
Maybe it is not shown because I've never downloaded a service pack.
Where do you download the service packs from?

RE: licensing through VPN tunnel

It used to say GA level or something along those lines.  You can check it out with the software management tools in Start --> Programs --> Catia....

Regards,
Derek
