Combining Parts of an Assy?

Combining Parts of an Assy?

Combining Parts of an Assy?

(OP)
If I have an assembly containing 2 bodies that mate to each other, is it possible to combine them so I can save the assembly without external references?  I took a plastic injection molded part created a split and subsequent assy of the 2 halves.  I would now like to save the assy without the external references of the individual files.  Hope my intention is clear....

RE: Combining Parts of an Assy?

you could try making a joined part, saving out as a part... or with SW05 you can make a part without external references... but if you want ot save an assembly without external references you will probably have to export it out as a parasolid and bring it back into as a dumb assembly model.

RE: Combining Parts of an Assy?

Join works well, though it's kind of a convoluted process.  Follow the help directions exactly.

If I understand right, the simplist would be to do a 'Save As'.  Just select 'Save As Type' Part.  This'll leave you with a dumbsolid made of 2 seperate solid bodies.

It has worked for me using the Join function.  However, FYI, anytime you save an assembly as a part file it changes the solid bodies to surfaces only.  Not a problem unless you will be doing a section view.

RE: Combining Parts of an Assy?

There is a check box to save the Assy as a Part with "All Components", that should solve your "surfaces only" problem.

RE: Combining Parts of an Assy?

or external components, either one will get you solid multi-bodies... better then surfaces
