Salt Fog Testing, Salt Requirements, water requirements?

Salt Fog Testing, Salt Requirements, water requirements?

(OP)
What are the requirements for salt used in salt fog testing (such as sodium chloride purity and trace elements in the salt?)?
What are the requirements for the water used (is RO water good enough or is DI water required?)?

RE: Salt Fog Testing, Salt Requirements, water requirements?

Check out ASTM B117 for guidelines. This is the SOP for operating salt spray apparatus. For the salt solution:
Salt <0.3% total impurities. Halides other than chloride <0.1%. Copper <0.3 ppm by mass. No anti-caking agents are allowed.

The water requirements (Type IV) are in ASTM D1193. I don't have the text in front of me but I'll retrieve it if no one else has it handy.

You can also buy the salt water solution pre-mixed and certified to ASTM B-117.
