High Pressure Plug

High Pressure Plug

High Pressure Plug

(OP)
Hello,
I need to plug a hole in a high pressure (15000 psi) hydraulic assembly.  I have the freedom to drill or thread the hole to any desired size over 1.375".  I have tried to locate an OEM cone and thread style plug with no luck for this size range.  Any suggestions for vendors or alternate design ideas for plugging this hole?
Thanks!

RE: High Pressure Plug

Look at the A.F.O plugs.  They also make a radial force plug.  I would contact Lee and see about 1,375" as they show a 1.325" plug for your pressures.
For a 10,000 psig ( testing to 13,000 psig)  system we use a flange and self energizing gasket.

Thanks for the info!  I will give them a call tomorrow and post back with what I find.

RE: High Pressure Plug

Having trouble getting Lee to return my calls or emails.  Unlikely that they would want to make the small quanitity of plugs I need in a custom size anyway.

I believe at this point I will have to do my own design and have a local machine shop fabricate them.  I would appreciate some guidance, however, as I do not have a lot of experience in this realm.

The challenge is to plug a hydraulic port that had been plugged years ago via a welded fitting.  There is a 1.3125" - 12 #16 O-Ring Boss fitting currently there.  I was thinking of drilling out the current fitting and adding a taper and threading a larger diameter like 1.5"-12.  Then I will design an axial force type plug to fit.  Here is where I could use some advice.

- Where can I find the spec that lists the standard geometry for the 1.3125" O-Ring fitting?
- What taper angle is appropriate for the metal to metal seal on the new plug?
- Any advice on torque to ensure a leak free seal?

Thanks!
