Ethernet to Serial conversion
Ethernet to Serial conversion
(OP)
I am looking for an ethernet to serial convertor that allows each of the serial devices to have a unique IP address. I am working with a network which has an HMI presently serving both serial and Ethernet RTUs, I would like to convert everything to be served on the ethernet network. I will be using Modbus TCP (not Modbus RTU on TCP) as the prrotocol. I have found several device servers which will work, however, they all seem to operate with a single IP address for the Device Server and use the station ID in the Modbus message to route the message on the serial network. I would like the ability to have a single IP address for each RTU.
Does anyone know of a device which will allow this??

RE: Ethernet to Serial conversion
Ethernet to serial converters allow the serial side to be multi-dropped using RS-485. The multi-dropped devices are only distinguised from their station numbers.
I do not see the benefit or how an ethernet to serial converter will provide an IP address for each serial device. This will sort of defeat the purpose of IP address conservation. Why not use a converter for each station?
Having said the above, it would be interesting to find out how such a device will work.
