can i use diesel fuel as a hydraulic fluid for pressure

low pressure cylinders

RE: hydraulic fluid

Although diesel shouldn't detonate at 43.5 psi, I would caution against using it as a working fluid.  You'll have storage, disposal, material compatibility and safety considerations to deal with that you wouldn't normally with another hydraulic.  Also, diesel is stinky, and it's almost impossible to keep it from pervading the air around your appartus unless it's is well ventilated.

RE: hydraulic fluid

You're asking for headaches. Why not go with a very light turbine oil instead. I concur with eltron on the smell of diesel oil.

RE: hydraulic fluid

For vehicles, 10w-40 is used about as much as hydrualic fluid these days.
