how to applyload step2 based on the geometry results of the load step1

how to applyload step2 based on the geometry results of the load step1

how to applyload step2 based on the geometry results of the load step1

I use transient ,ramped loading, and apply displacement UY(0.2 in) on top area to push the box up.
And write LS file 1 . And then, I apply UY(0 or -0.2 in--I tried two times) on the same area, and write LS file 2 to push the box down to the previous position.
Then solve.

But the results shows the second step is from the very beginning, rather than from the updated goemetry of the first step.

My question is how to set in ansys to make sure the second step is based on the updated geometry of the first step (up position).

object:
                    ------
-----   after step1 |    |  after step 2 ------
|   |               |    |               |    |
|   |                                    |    |

my results
                   ------
-----              |    |
|   | after step1  |    |
|   |

                         UY=0
step2 is ------   ---->  ------
         |    |          |    |
         |    |          |    |

if input UY=-0.2

step2 is ------  ----->
         |    |         ------
         |    |         |    |
                        |    |
How to solve this problem?
And which number (0 or 0.2 ) I should input?

Thank you very much!

RE: how to applyload step2 based on the geometry results of the load step1

Hello,
I have had some problems like that before, I Wanted to push the indenter 5 mm in the materail and after take it back about 3mm. There is a litle tric about it. At first step I had to applied the 5mm displacement, but on the second step I had to upplied 2mm displacement for indenter (think like this: 0mm-5mm+3mm). Ansys put the boundary condition in reference to initial geometry !!!

It seems That You mast applied the 0.2in at first step and
0.4in (0.2in from firs + 0.2in from second) at second step.

I hope thats it.... :)

Thanks!

I try according to your suggestion, and it works.
