"final drawing release" commitment

"final drawing release" commitment

"final drawing release" commitment

(OP)
Some of our suppliers have had to go thru multiple drawing releases to satisfy program management.

We just got drawing, rev H, with a rev description of "final release".  The part won't be finished for a few months.  The program view is that there is likeley to be at least an "as-built" release down the road.

Are there standard or preferred ways of naming releases that I could use as examples?

Thanks,

Dan T

RE: "final drawing release" commitment

I like a revision date with a reference to someone's name or specific office within a department. That way there is a final word and someone resposnsible for at least communications.

Otherwise it's like asking someone; "Have you heard the latest?".

RE: "final drawing release" commitment

We use 3-digit number revs for our development/R&D drawings (000, 001, ...012) and alpha revs for released production (A, B, ...F).

RE: "final drawing release" commitment

I have never heard of "final release". Was there previous "releases"? Normally, numerical revs are prelim, rev "-" or "A" is the first "release". Any rev thereafter is some change in the design.
All revs are "as-built". If they aren't, there wouldn't be any revs.
Each rev would indicate the change in the rev block, along with date and some type of ECO number.
