Literature for welders, the how to do structural weld approach? Any?

Literature for welders, the how to do structural weld approach? Any?

Pals

I am interested in a book or a website that teaches a technician how to do welds for structural steel fabrication purposes, properly

In our engineering world, there is enough of codes and theories, but not on the fieldwork of welding

I will use the book to help out technicians who carry out the actual welding work.

The book or website should be the one to tell the technician or will-be-good-welder how to do a fillet weld when there is a T, or how to do groove weld effectively and the like.

In addition to unclesyd's information above, the information below is available for free and is very handy;

www.jflf.org/pdfs/papers/fabguide.pdf

The document is Fabricator's and Erector's Guide to Welded Steel Construction

Hello everybody:

IJR, you can visit the site http://www.casti.ca, in the upper menu select "search", then, Find this book: Casti Metals Blue Book, click on the link and you will be able to download a free pdf lite version of this book.

Good luck !

I have the books you mentioned

But I am looking for "how to" kind of information

21121956: I am very serious about the name issue

Reading relevant literature is a great idea but IMHO,  actual hands-on-training should not be sacrificed at the expense of "book knowledge".

Hobart Institute of Welding has some great material http://www.welding.org/index.html

I work in disguise - sort of like fun for metallurgy with NO profit.

Another source: trade schools.  Around here (Eastern PA) is a place called Welder Training and Testing Institute.  Great place to learn how to weld.  Get some hands on experience and ask the instructors for good books.

The actual act of welding is much like riding a bicycle. You can read about it until you turn blue, but until you get out there and skin your knees/make a blobby mess on some metal for a while, you won't learn how to do it.

If I was looking for material on welder training (any trades training material, actually), I'd check out what's available in Alberta. There's a long history there of doing a really good job in this regard.
