Tank seperation on Oxygen & Inert gas

Tank seperation on Oxygen & Inert gas

Tank seperation on Oxygen & Inert gas

(OP)
Hi.... Following IFC 03 & NFPA 03...
Codes are vague or just don't apply to pressurized Inert tank seperation.
I have 1 oxygen  and 3 Inert bulk tanks outside piped inside for dispensing operations.
The most I can find is 5 feet seperation under oxygen section....? They do fall under the quantities for 5 feet sep.....Sound right..?

RE: Tank seperation on Oxygen & Inert gas

Some questions since your post is pretty vague:

1) Are these compressed gases or cryogenic fluids?
2) NFPA does not have a standard number 03? Are you referencing the 2001 edition of NFPA 50 for cryogenic oxygen systems found in the complete volumes of the 2003 compilation of all the standards?

Sorry on being so vague on this...
NFPA 03 was the 2003 edition... and it is compressed gas tanks and a cryogenic oxygen tank .......

RE: Tank seperation on Oxygen & Inert gas

I'm still unclear on the NFPA standard 3 because I don't have this standard in my set.

Your conditions are storage of compressed gas cylinders containing inert gases and a single ASME pressure vessel that contains liquid oxygen (LOX). In reviewing IFC chapter 32, table 3203.6.1 will specify your required separation distances from incompatible materials. Also, IFC section 3201.1 adopts NFPA 50 by reference.

Storage of compressed gas cylinders of inert gases adjacent to a vessel of LOX does not constitute incompatible chemical storage as defined in IFC chapter 27.
