Hi,

I'm looking for a materail which its strain value is highest possible. I would like to find a material which able to absorber all the energy when an objet is falling down. The masse of the objet is about 100 kg and it falls from 0.6 m. Is it possible to calculate want is the thickness required and want kind of the material? Also, I would like the material less thick as possible.

How do you know the object's mass if you don't know the material that it is made from?

Strength of the material and energy absorbtion or a structure do not necessarilly have a direct relationship.

Well, I'm saying that an objet with a mass of 100 kg which falls down and I want to find a material which able to absorbe all the energy which means that the object does not rebounce.

Does the protective structure fall with the 100 kg object, or is it stationary on the ground?

Does the protective structure need to survive the impact with no damage, or can it deform permenantly to do its job?

The protective structure can either fall with the object or stay in ground. I do not know, want is the best way to do? It does not matter for the damage of the protective structure. But, if we can find something which can return back to its original form is the best because I'm doing repetition tests. So, it is worth not to destroy from each test.

MIL-HDBK-304B PACKAGE CUSHIONING DESIGN, MIL-HDBK-304C PACKAGE CUSHIONING DESIGN. This document is a design guide how to select the thickness and the material type to stop falling objects without getting over a specified  G acceleration. The shorter the cushion travel the higher the G acceleration on the falling mass.
