RE: punching and shearing steel plate

Have you visited a library recently and reviewed any of the references available on the subject?  ASM Handbook Volume 14, SME Tool & Manufacturing Engineers Handbook Volume 2, Handbook of Metal Forming edited by Lange, and Metal Forming Handbook published by Schuler are all excellent references.

RE: punching and shearing steel plate

cutting force, C = LTS tons
where,
L=length of cutting edge. in.
T=thikness of stock material. in.
S=shear strength of stock material, tons

Stripping force is generally 5~20 % of cutting force

cutting clearance for most metal is 3~5%. for stainless steel, it's 5~8%

I recommend you this book.
