Abrasive Sand Blasting

Abrasive Sand Blasting

Abrasive Sand Blasting

(OP)
I was reviewing a set of bridge plans and there was a note that stated all existing steel would be "abrasive blasted to a SA-1." Any ideas on what SA-1 is referring to? Is this referring to a specification on abrasive blasting or a surface finish.

RE: Abrasive Sand Blasting

This page shows some different blast standards including an SSI-SA1, which is shown being equivalent to brush-off blast.  I don't know what the SSI stands for.  I also find at least one reference to an ISO-SA1, but don't find an ISO standard by that name:

RE: Abrasive Sand Blasting

I believe that this may be a reference to BS 7079, which deals with surface cleanliness of structural steelwork prior to the application of protective coating.

This link gives a brief explanation of the differing grades of finish available.
