Sovent Usage

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I work at an A/E firm, and we have a client who wants to install the Sovent single-stack plumbing system in a high-rise.  We've tried several people in our area (New York down to Philly) and no one has installed it.  Have any of you had experience with this system?  It seems (according to the manufacturer) like a good, simple layout, but we'd rather not base a decision on advertisements!  By the way, I am electrical, as my ID notes, but our plumber hates computers so I'm posting the question.  Thanks for your help and for not laughing at my ignorance!

RE: Sovent Usage

Sovent piping system is popular in many countries in the world except the US.  It is recognized as a viable piping design especially for multi story hotels but the codes in the US have yet to formally recognize it.

ASPE Data Book, Volume 2 as well as  Facility Piping Systems Handbook by Frankel has information on the system

In the International Plumbing Code, there is a provision for alternative engineered design.  Basically, it means you design the system, get all the pertinent literature, vendor cut sheets, etc. and go to your local code official and he looks at it and if he approves it, you go with it.

Hope it helps.

I do not think the Uniform Plumbing Code has a similar stipulation.  You will have to see which code applies in your jurisdiction
