Partially Restrained Joint

Partially Restrained Joint

(OP)
I have two 2D frames that I am conducting a push over analysis on. One is made up of moment connections, the other one I'm modeling as being made up of partially restrained connections. I'm basing the behavior on physical testing I performed. I have a moment rotation graph for these partially restrained connections, but I don't know how to enter a backbone curve into SAP. I know I can enter a spring constant for a joint, but that is only one number and I need to enter more than that to describe the backbone curve.

How do I enter the moment rotation graph information into SAP so that my joints act like partially restrained connections? Thanks.

RE: Partially Restrained Joint

Sostratus,

1.  Define:  Link Properties
2.  Modify/Show Property
3.  Choose Link/Support Type as "Multilinear Plastic"
4.  Choose the directional property youw ant it to apply to (U1 etc) and check "Nonlinear"
5.  Click the "Modify/Show for xx" box for that degree of freedom.
6.  In this box you can choose between SAPs three predefined backbone curve types (Kinematic, Takeda, and Pivot).  Unfortunately you can't just build your own but typically you can make one of the three curves fit fairly well to your own data.
7.  After you've finished setting all the parapeters, click on the joint in the model you want to assign the Link to, and go to "Assign:Joint:PanelZone" and select "Specific Link Property" for the link you just created.

Hope this helps.
