Got a MSc. Environemtal Technology, now What? Lost :(

Hi all,

I got a Bachelor Degree in Biochemistry in Hong Kong, then got my MSc. Environemtnal Technology in Germany a year ago. The master study was really general and a bit of everything, e.g. environmental economics, environmental law, geo statistics, environmental monitoring, GIS, project management...etc..(one of my school course is a QA course for six sigma green belt but I didn't take the qualification test. yeah, how stupid!)

Since it is not an M.Eng. Degree, I found it difficult to set my feet in the environmental field.

My questions are, if I still want to pursuit a career in the enviroenmental field, what is the best direction for me? (perhaps in the direction of quality/ management/planning?) And what further courses should I taken or what further qualifications do I need?

Any advice/opinion will be greatly appreciated!!!

Lost and depressed,
Stella

Which courses and what direction you should take depends on what country you want to work in.  In the US, you cannot get a PE without an undergraduate degree in engineering, but it is possible to work in the environmental field without a PE.

Thanks Francesca!

I am now in Hong Kong. Obviously the situation here is not that optimisitic. In spite of being one of the most 'happening' city, the government doesn't care much about the environmental issues. Lots of thing going on in China but only real experienced experts/expats are wanted.

But I am moving to Europe soon to join my fiance, hopefully can get a job in France/Germany/UK. (I speak Mandarin, Cantonese, English and German, currently learning French )

I am realistic and know it is NOT gonna be easy, expecting to go unemployed for 6-18 months. Therefore, besides learning the language, I would love to better prepare myself and work in the environemntal field. cos 1. I really would like to do sth for the nature/environment. 2. it is easier to start with sth. you already have some knowledge of.

Well if you move to Brussels, you could probably get a job translating environmental legislation into various EU languages!
