NADCAP for Wire EDM

NADCAP for Wire EDM

NADCAP for Wire EDM

(OP)
thread31-52500

The thread above asked a question about NADCAP and its relevance to newer EDM machines.  I attended the task group meeting in January 2005 and we addressed this issue.  A new checksheet is in the approval process.  Has anybody reviewed it?  I find there are still some issues with how restrictive (and subjective) the maintenance and quality requirements are, like how often filters are to be changed, how meters are to be calibrated and what recast layer limits are, for example.

RE: NADCAP for Wire EDM

If the wire EDM questionnaire asks questions about recast layer thickness acceptance criteria, then it is out-of-court. The questionnaire, and the whole Nadcap process is concerned with process certification and not product requirements. The customer acceptance criteria and tolerances are still valid and Nadcap can in no way modify these. Eauditnet still shows valid checklist to be AC7116/3 Feb 2002, so the questionnaire you refer to has still not been accepted.

Thank you.  That's how we feel.  The new checklists were supposes to be voted on in January, with test audits this spring and summer.  They are not expected to be active until October.
