How to create a part from two parts

How to create a part from two parts

How to create a part from two parts

(OP)
Hello I have a question . How can I create from an assembly of 2 parts a single part ?

Thank you !

 Florin

RE: How to create a part from two parts

Open a new Catia session
Create a new Product
File -- Insert from new and pick Part A.  This is going to make a new independent copy of the original. Change the name to Part B.
Drag and drop this part into the assembly.
Insert Existing component - pick Part A
Delete the information you don't want in each part
The result should be an assembly with Part A and Part B.

Derek

Thank you but you didn't understand what I've asked . Maybe I havent been so explicit.  I'm using Catia V5R16 and i am trying to make a single part from 2 other parts. In assembly design I have 2 parts and i want to make a single  part (independent from the others)from those two parts. I've recived this question at a job interview and i didn't knew how to answer it and I failed the interview.

RE: How to create a part from two parts

There are two methods to create a single part from the CATParts of an assembly. The first is to make an "Allcatpart" bu using the "Generate CATPart from Product" located under the tools menu in the Assembly workbench.  This will give you a non-linked CATPart.

If you wish to keep the link to the original assembly add a new CATPart to the assembly and while active in that part select all of the CATBodies from all of the other CATParts and do a paste special.

Florin, do you mind sharing who the company was?

I don't mind but I don't think it matters .It's in Romania and it's called Rolem

RE: How to create a part from two parts

Sorry Florin - I misread your question - I thought you wanted to make a 2 part assembly FROM a single part. I should slow down when reading.

Derek
